Blame it on Angelina Jolie

In August 2014, Angelina Jolie got married in a white silk satin gown & veil that featured embroidered drawings of her 6 children. The wedding gown was wrapped in originality with expressive drawings of flowers, music notes, a plane, monkeys, qoutes and characters inspired from their parents’ lives.

Donatella Versace crafted the dress & Luigi Massi, the tailor at Atelier Versace, oversaw the personal touches. And the world of course, took notice and loved every dash of it.

So, it wasn’t surprising that in 2015, Dolce & Gabbana included innocent  scribbles as part of their Viva La Mamma show in Milan. The feel good show had supermodels catwalk in floaty shifts and Fifties-esque day dresses splashed with the wonderful world of kids' drawings.

These ‘sketch pen’ creations were drawn by the little nieces and nephews of the designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, and then printed on to fabric.

With this colourful riot of scribbles, little girls dresses were as hip as their mothers’.  And D&G winter 2015-2016 celebrated toddler artists like never before.

This certainly wasn’t the 1st time, one had seen adorable drawings by kids on clothes. It has been an accepted (and expected) ‘design’ on kids clothing atleast. The big difference lied in its fashion value. Such high profile endorsements from the entertainment and fashion world, made naïve’ kids drawings go from being ‘pinned across homes’ to ‘pinup’ fashion!

The elevation from being just a“cute” sweatshirt or ‘whimsical’ tee, to a must have luxury item. The charming world of doodles now finds it self with a higher price tag and in prestigious fashion shows. Pages from drawing books are now proudly re produced on to well cut dresses and pants. And many A designers are experimenting with embroidered patches, sequins and paint –splatter prints.

So the next time you look through your child's drawings, smile a bit more. You are not only a mushy proud mom/ dad now, you are the ‘with-it’ parent :)

HOW TO CATCH FROGS STYLISHY

Our choice for monsoon kids fashion is yellow. Why? Coz it's chirpy when the clouds are grey. Coz it stands out in a downpour. And because we like to refer to rains as liquid sunshine :)

Here are 5 ways to add style with yellow rainwear:

1. YELLOW RAIN BOOTS

Also known as galoshes - waterproof overshoes are your most stylish choice to stomp after frogs in in slushy gardens and puddles. The market is pouring with options since yellow rain boots are every kids fashion designer’s favourite. Worn over leggings / jeans or under shorts /dresses, they look cool and fun.

2. DRENCHED IN YELLOW

Stretch out your arms and welcome the downpour in bright, all-yellow raincoats. Their light material makes chasing frogs very easy. Designers have spoilt us for choice with styles varying from trench coat length, jacket-style, cape coat, The Beatles inspired and more. All styles have hoods protecting your head. Use it to pull a surprise face at that frog. Once in shock – catch it :)

3. CATCH THE FROG, NOT THE COLD!

Rains bring down the temperature and sudden showers often mean cough & cold. Stay on your game with lined yellow raincoats. The water repellent outer lets you run outdoors & soft lining keeps you warm. Roll up the sleeves to add pattern detail on the yellow. Buckle up the high neck collar to avoid sneezing. You don’t want to alarm the frog to leap away!

4. TRANSPARENT RAIN GEAR WITH SPRINKLES OF YELLOW

Another stylish choice is transparent rainwear with a yellow design element. Such as ducks, polkas, stripes. Seen in both raincoats& umbrellas, this minimalist look can be easily worn over any outfit. The look is playful and you can show-off your froggie after you place it in your pocket.

5. PITTER-PATTER POUCHES

Carry essentials like pocket money, drinking water, napkins etc., in bright water-proof pouches / bags. They can survive a heavy lash and add a dash of peppy yellow to your outfit. Also perfect to store candy for extra energy and chasing power.
