Blame it on Angelina Jolie

In August 2014, Angelina Jolie got married in a white silk satin gown & veil that featured embroidered drawings of her 6 children. The wedding gown was wrapped in originality with expressive drawings of flowers, music notes, a plane, monkeys, qoutes and characters inspired from their parents’ lives.

Donatella Versace crafted the dress & Luigi Massi, the tailor at Atelier Versace, oversaw the personal touches. And the world of course, took notice and loved every dash of it.

So, it wasn’t surprising that in 2015, Dolce & Gabbana included innocent  scribbles as part of their Viva La Mamma show in Milan. The feel good show had supermodels catwalk in floaty shifts and Fifties-esque day dresses splashed with the wonderful world of kids' drawings.

These ‘sketch pen’ creations were drawn by the little nieces and nephews of the designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, and then printed on to fabric.

With this colourful riot of scribbles, little girls dresses were as hip as their mothers’.  And D&G winter 2015-2016 celebrated toddler artists like never before.

This certainly wasn’t the 1st time, one had seen adorable drawings by kids on clothes. It has been an accepted (and expected) ‘design’ on kids clothing atleast. The big difference lied in its fashion value. Such high profile endorsements from the entertainment and fashion world, made naïve’ kids drawings go from being ‘pinned across homes’ to ‘pinup’ fashion!

The elevation from being just a“cute” sweatshirt or ‘whimsical’ tee, to a must have luxury item. The charming world of doodles now finds it self with a higher price tag and in prestigious fashion shows. Pages from drawing books are now proudly re produced on to well cut dresses and pants. And many A designers are experimenting with embroidered patches, sequins and paint –splatter prints.

So the next time you look through your child's drawings, smile a bit more. You are not only a mushy proud mom/ dad now, you are the ‘with-it’ parent :)
